Ireland, India and the British Empire : The Ashoka Crossover Series
Professor Jane Ohlmeyer is an esteemed scholar of early modern Irish history and a passionate teacher. An Erasmus Smith’s Professor of Modern History at Trinity College Dublin, she is presently the Chair of the Irish Research Council and a member of several distinguished societies including the American Historical Association and the American Conference of Irish Studies, amongst others. Professor Ohlmeyer has also served as the President of the Irish Historical Society (2003-2005). She has authored 11 books and is presently working on a study of Colonial Ireland, Colonial India. The Ashoka Crossover Series explores the intellectual foundations of Ashoka and attempts to cross the divide between the academy and the public. Each Crossover lecture is run to introduce general audiences to some of the most interesting, startling and innovative developments in contemporary scholarship across the academic disciplines. The series foregrounds the most distinctive feature of a liberal education — the pursuit of critical thought across diverse subjects normally regarded as separate from each other.
